Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the MoD is actively looking into the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been told to avoid talking about classified information in any vehicles.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about secret material while travelling in China-made cars.

He explained that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified level in any car, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This broader security situation underscores the significance of robust measures and vigilance in every areas of government operations, from vehicle use to communication habits.
